Beta software — use at your own risk

This is an early build of the Yakkery extension, before it is in the browser stores. It is unfinished, it has not been reviewed by any store, it is installed by hand, and it does not update itself. It may not work the way we or you expect. Please don't use it for anything you can't afford to lose.

Who it's for

  • Members 18 and over, on a computer, using Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave or another Chromium browser.
  • Not yet Firefox, Safari or phones. Firefox only keeps an extension installed by hand if Mozilla has signed it, and that comes with the store listing.
  • If you would rather wait, the extension page will offer a one-click install from each store as soon as it is approved.

Install it (about a minute)

  1. Unzip the file into a folder you will keep, such as Documents/Yakkery beta. The browser runs the extension from that folder, so don't delete or move it.
  2. Open your extensions page. Type chrome://extensions into the address bar (in Edge, edge://extensions; in Brave, brave://extensions). Browsers don't let a website link there directly.
  3. Turn on Developer mode — the switch is at the top right in Chrome and Brave, and on the left in Edge.
  4. Choose “Load unpacked” and select the folder you unzipped (the one containing manifest.json). “Yakkery (beta)” appears in the list.
  5. Pin it and sign in. Click the puzzle-piece icon next to the address bar, pin Yakkery, open it on any page, read and accept the beta notice, then sign in.

Your browser may remind you now and then that a developer-mode extension is installed. That is expected for a beta installed by hand. It does not update itself: when a newer beta is out, the extension says so, and you download it here and load it the same way. To remove it, choose Remove on your extensions page.
