Privacy policy

Draft pending legal review. This text describes how Yakkery is built to work; it is not yet a binding agreement.

What we store

• Your account: email, hashed password or sign-in provider, handle, profile, birthdate (used only for age protections).
• What you post, react to, follow, and bookmark, and the messages you send.
• Addresses of pages that members chose to discuss, with tracking parameters removed. Not your browsing history.
• IP addresses in sign-in and rate-limit logs, deleted after 30 days.

The browser extension

• No page address leaves your browser unless you open the sidebar on that tab or use a right-click action on that page.
• The optional icon badge sends a 5-character hash prefix, never the address.
• Presence is opt-in, visible only to others who opted in, expires after 90 seconds, and is never written to disk.
• Page content is never uploaded from your browser.

Messages

Direct messages are private but not end-to-end encrypted. Staff can only read them when investigating a report, and every access is logged with a reason.

AI processing

Public page content fetched by YakkeryBot, site descriptions, and public posts are sent to our AI provider to write descriptions, categorize sites, screen reports, and answer Ask questions. Direct messages are not.

No trackers

No third-party analytics, advertising pixels, or fingerprinting on the website or in the extension.

Your rights

Export everything or delete your account from settings. Optional features (presence, badge, digest email) are based on your consent and can be turned off any time. The legal basis for everything else is providing the service you signed up for.
